ART BOTTERELL
Associate Director

Art Botterell is an internationally known expert on crisis communications and emergency information systems, with over 30 years experience in emergency management and mass media. He has served on the national response staff of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES), and more recently as a consultant to industry groups and government agencies in the U.S. and Asia. An experienced broadcast journalist and producer, Mr. Botterell also has produced award-winning Internet communications for world-class corporate clients including Microsoft and Proctor & Gamble.

Mr. Botterell has lectured on crisis communications systems at FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute and the California Specialized Training Institute, and written and lectured extensively in the U.S. and abroad. He is the founder and moderator of the "Networks In Emergency Management" and "Cal-EPI" Internet discussion communities. He is also the creator of the State of California’s “Emergency Digital Information Service” (EDIS) and of "incident.com," a non-profit Internet emergency notification portal. He is a Research Associate of the Centre for Policy Research in Science and Technology at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia.
