JAMES L. PATURAS
James Paturas is the Deputy Director of the Yale New Haven Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response, (YNH-CEPDR) which provides coordination of emergency preparedness for Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, Yale-New Haven Hospital, Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital. He also serves as Director of the state designated Connecticut Center of Excellence for Bioterrorism and Emergency Preparedness at the Yale New Haven Health System and Associate Director for the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) / World Health Organization (WHO) designated International Collaborating Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response (ICCEPDR).
Mr. Paturas has over thirty-two years of experience in hospitals and health care. From 1981, until being assigned his new role with the YNHHS CEPDR, Mr. Paturas was the Director of Ambulatory Development and Emergency Services for Bridgeport Hospital and served as the hospital emergency management coordinator and co-chairman of the hospital emergency management committee. Prior to relocating to Connecticut he was the Director, Prehospital Care & Emergency Services for St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City from 1977-1981.
Mr. Paturas has served as author, editor and contributor on over 30 medical texts and publications with a primary focus on emergency medicine and disaster preparedness. Mr. Paturas is currently a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Business Continuity and Emergency Planning, Inside Homeland Security® for the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security and the 2008 Contingency Planning & Management's Group journal.
On a national level, he serves on the FEMA National Advisory Council, Department of Homeland Security Information Network Advisory Council, Board of Directors and Past President of the American College of Contingency Planners and Past President of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. He also serves on the Joint Advisory Working Group for Research and Development in protection of the Healthcare and Public Health Sector for the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) program for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR).
He is also a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) and has successfully completed Certification in Homeland Security IV from the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security. In addition, he is a Certified Business Continuity Planner (CBCP) with the Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII) and is a Fellow of the American College of Contingency Planners (FACCP).
